Here at Scotsman Yard, we understand the value of peak performing equipment. So much in fact, that we maintain all of our equipment ourselves, to be sure that it’s done properly. This includes making sure all or our saws have razor sharp cutters that are evenly ground at the proper angles. We invite you to take advantage of this skill if you find that your equipment isn’t performing the way that it could and should be. Our chain sharpening services include the following:

-Cleaning and Degreasing

-Drive link inspection and repair

-Grinding cutters to peak performing angles

-Raker adjustment to factory or customer preferred depth

-Oil soak

When you get your chain back, it will look and perform like it did when it was new out of the box, or better. Don’t chuck that thrown or rocked chain! We can restore it for a fraction of the cost of a new one.

Our pricing list might look a little different than some other sharpening centers because we charge by the length of the chain. We charge by length because we do it manually. One link at a time instead of throwing it in an automated machine. What’s wrong with using an automated machine at the local service center? Well, quite a few things:

-The machines are rarely maintained and calibrated properly.

-The operator is often an inexperienced kid with a screen addiction.

-The service center WANTS you to keep buying new chains and has no vested interest in making sure your chain lives it’s longest and fullest life.

-The automated machine (or operator) has a tendency to remove more material from the cutter than is necessary thus shortening the life of the chain. Also, removing too much material overheats the metal causing a tempering effect that will reduce the effectiveness of future sharpenings.

-Chains aren’t cleaned which interferes with proper inspection and sharpening

-Many service centers don’t adjust the raker height properly or even at all, making your chain cut less effectively, despite being sharp.

These are the reasons why we decided to start sharpening ourselves. Still considering using the automated machine? We hope not! Give us a try. You won’t be disappointed.

We do not service burnt chains, so be sure to keep that oil tank topped up!

Pro Tip: Don’t fill the fuel tank all the way to the top. This ensures you run out of fuel before you run out of bar oil. If you stop to refuel, and your bar oil tank is empty, you’ve already caused damage!
